About

Tigre de Tartán is a print house making objects for play, table and real life: artist-designed mahjong gaming mats, leather tile bags and pouches, needlepoint canvases, and tableware. The studio is based in Winnetka, on the North Shore of Chicago, and mats and leather goods are manufactured in the USA and EU in small batches.

Our mahjong mats are made from PLAYFINISH™, a material developed specifically for American mahjong — wipeable, spill-resistant and sound-dampening, with a thin profile that lies flat without curling. Standard mats are 31.5" square, and Rules Editions carry the regulation American Mahjong layout printed along the edge.

Every print begins as original artwork, most of it by independent female artists. We work with Paige Spearin, Two Sparrows Mahjong, Center & Spring and Blue Canary Canvas. Tigre de Tartán has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Sheridan Road, Homeworthy, Country Magazine, The North Shore Weekend, Westport Lifestyle and The Scout Guide, on NBC 5 Chicago Today, and at Mark & Graham and Anthropologie.

Most pieces are crafted to order and ship within one to two weeks. Questions, custom monogram requests and wholesale enquiries: hello@tigredetartan.com
