Many players know Katherine Hartman through her beloved Mother Nature mahjong set for Crisloid, a design admired for its warmth, craftsmanship, and unmistakable sense of wonder. But behind every illustration is something even more meaningful: a deep respect for mahjong's history and the objects that carry it forward.

Long before mahjong experienced its recent surge in popularity (and certainly long before Tigre launched it’s mahjong category), Katherine was studying antique sets, documenting the history of American mahjong, and building one of the most respected collections in the game. As a historian, collector, author, educator, and designer, her work has helped countless players understand that mahjong is a living tradition shaped by generations of people who loved the game.

At Tigre de Tartán, we've always believed that the objects surrounding the game deserve as much thought as the game itself. A beautiful table invites people to linger. A well-made rack feels different in your hands. A thoughtfully designed accessory becomes part of family traditions, travels, celebrations, and ordinary Tuesday afternoons with friends.
